The Outlook status bar shows that it is sending some outgoing message that do not exist in the outbox. Why?

I am using Outlook in Office 2003 for my POP emails. On the send/receive status bar, it always shows that it is sending some outgoing messages, but I cannot find them in the outbox. How can I cancel them? Are they those receipt acknowledges or virus behavior?|||You are not alone.
